Hello parents and way to go 8th graders, soon to be freshman. This year went by so fast. I truly wish all the 8th graders great luck and success in their educational future. As every all I will miss you individual. The next step in this thing we call left is in front of you. Greatest of luck.
Mr. Renaud
First weeks of May
We finished our Civil War simulation last Friday. The students did a great job on this project. Hopefully they understand how it feels to be a soldier in battle. I have 8th graders 2 more times this year. One of those days will be check out. This includes locker clean out. You might want to send a bag with them so they can bring everything home. I also invented a game about different governments around the world. We will play this game on Thursday. I hope to see all of you at your child's exit interview.

April 24-28th
Hello parents: WOW time has gone bye so fast. In class we are putting as much together as we can in studying the Civil War. I just got done looking at the calendar and I see the students have my class an entire 4 more times. It has been one heck of a ride. Many parents have asked if there is any extra credit. I have a few sheets on my desk they can do. The main problem is some are choosing not to focus so help them get that back so they leave on a great note. On a personal note: I have enjoyed working with your child and seeing them grow from the 1st week of 6th grade to the end of 8th grade. It has been my pleasure to be a part of their early life and have many dreams for their future in High school and beyond.
Mr. Renaud
April 3 to April 7
The students completed and presented power points this week of the United States in the 1800's. We talked about the many conflicts it created when we moved west. We also studied documents which included primary sources. The next thing we will be studying is the Alamo before we dive into the Civil War.
Mr. Renaud
March 28th
Sending out a note early this week. I really want to express how important this quarter is and how the students need to prepare themselves for High School. The start of the 4th quarter sets the students on a clean slate. This is a great opportunity to bring there "A" game to class everyday. As a veteran teacher I can only express how important it is to hit the next level running and get rid of those habits that are bringing your child's grades and behavior down. This week we will be studying events that happened in the early 1800's. We will do a little unit on Texas and The Alamo. After studying that we can start focusing on The Civil War.
Mr. Renaud
March 6 to March 9
3rd quarter is coming to end. Please look through their grades on parent portal. They will know how to get on their grades if your having problems with this. Many student have D's or even F's in many classes. They have 4 days to get this turned around.Last week I told you we were going to study political parties. We went the direction of the Louisiana Purchase instead. This week my plan is to dip into further the concept of moving west and the birth of The Monroe Doctrine. I hope to see you at parent teacher night and have a great break.
Mr. Renaud
Feb. 26 to Mar. 3rd
This week we worked on our essay. Most finished. Those that were absent or need a few extra minutes will finish on Monday. In the mean time others will work on a little economicds worksheet that requires them to shop on the internet. We will hurry through early history after the revolutionary war focusing on things that led to the Civil War.
Mr. Renaud
Feb 6th to Feb 10th
This week we had our huge Civics test. After grading I could see a huge difference between those that studied and those that didn't study. We also studied about citizenship. We went over the process one had to take if they were not a naturalized citizen. Each person had to take the exam as if the were were applying to be a citizen. We will begin a DBQ next week and study different campaign strategies.
Mr. Renaud
week of Jan 30 to Feb 3
Hello,
This week we came to an end of our Civics unit. Tuesday they will have a big test on what we have studied for the last month. All information to study for the test has been giving to the students. After playing review jeopardy on Friday, I really feel that many students need to go over there handouts and prepare for this test.
Mr. Renaud
week of Jan 23 to 27
This week I only got to see most of my students 1 day this week. We are in the civics unit and covering many aspects of our government. We used our 1 day to go over the amendments added to the Constitution. We plan to have a guest speaker, ( a police officer), to give some sight into how our police deal with some of the rights an American citizen has. We should end end this unit by the following week with a test.
Mr. Renaud
Jan 4th to Jan 13th
Welcome back to the second part of the year. We are working on what it takes to be a successful High School student. In class we have started our civic unit. Students worked on posters covering different parts of our government. Some examples the students are studying are How a Bill Becomes a Law, The ammendments, Checks and Balances, and a whole lot more. They will take a few wekks on rights and responsibilities of a member of this great country.
Mr. Renaud
Day before Christmas break
Wow!!!!!!!! Time is flying. When your student gets back from break they only have 2 semesters before high school. Is your student ready for High School? This break is a great time to sit down with you child and have a heart to heart talk about what they must achieve to be successful for the next step. Many seem ready while others need to kick it in gear. In Social Studies class we will begin to talk about our government. This is a great unit as the students grow to the age of getting involved.
Thanks, Mr. Renaud
Dec 5th to the 9th
we talked about what we were to do without the British Government. This leads us to the Articles OF Confederation. As the end of the second quarter ends, many students are missing a few key assignments. They must get those turned in before next Tuesday. Please ask your child about these and go over the parent portal with them so they might end the semester on a high point.
Mr. Renaud
Thanksgiving break
I hope everyone had a great break and are prepared to work in class for the three week run to Christmas break. This is a very important learning situation for the students to learn that even though a break is coming it is important to focus on what is on hand today. We will soon be entering the era of creating a constitution and starting a future government for our nation.

Oct 31 to Oct 4
This message is a little early than my usual Friday messages for a reason. Tomorrow the 8th graders have a test in my class. I have given the students the study guide that includes everything on the test. The students each got an index card to "cheat" n the test by writing down anything on the index card they wish to put down. They may use this index card on the test and hand it in as well for extra points. Please have your student study and get a great score for the start or 2nd quarter.

Act. 24th and 26th
We studies the Intolerable acts as well as created a t-shirt boycott. We are getting into the Revolutionary war this week. The students will have a test on Friday. The student will receive a study guide which may be used as a base for the quiz. They will be given a note card for any notes they intend to use on the test. Please ask your student Thursday night if they are ready for the test.
Mr. Renaud
We will begin watching "The Patriot" on Tuesday. The film is rated R for violence. This movie has been edited and the principals in the past have borrowed the film for their child's own school. If you would rather not have your student watching this movie an alternative will be available.
Mr. Renaud
Week of Oct. 17th
We did some studying on Taxation Without Representation. We started with what taxes were used for and how we collect them. We are getting very close to the Revolutionary War. I hope to see as many of you as i can this week during parent-teacher conference. This is the end of the first quarter. This is a great time to sit down with your students and discuss some goals with them. A "Road Map" is always a great idea about how to achieve these goals.
Mr. Renaud
Oct. 4th and 6th
This week we studied the French Indian War. We learned why the Native Americans fought for the French instead of the British. We are nearing the Revolutionary War. This will give an insight of some of the issues we have today including freedoms that individuals have. We will also study some of the taxes this war was fought over and determine if they were fair or not.
Mr. Renaud
week of September 26th
The students are working on their DBQ essay on Johnstown. They are to argue why they think most of the settlers died when trying to establish Johnstown. A few of the students are lagging in their effort and will need to step it up to get a passing grade. Others are working very well. Please pay attention to the parent portal as it shows your child's, up to date, grades. If you are having trouble please call Julie at the High School to set your entrance up.
Thanks,
Mr. Renaud
Sept. 20th
Parents please check your students grade on infinite campus. The grade that was on the grade sheet I handed to them is incorrect. After an adjustment made on the computer some of the grades are 6% less than those given out. A retake of the test will be given on Wednesday 9/21 during lunch. Many grades are low because many haven't turned in their brochure which is over due by two weeks and/or they scored low on their test.
Mr. Renaud
sept12th to sept 17th
Hello,
This week we ended our studies or why people came to the colonies. Unfortunately, many students have not turned in their final project. Please check on parent portal as the mid term reports come out. We also took a test on Thursday. The students were giving study guides that they could take notes on and use on the test. Again, unfortunately, many students did not take advantage of this. I only graded about 20 tests and their was a great difference on those that filled out the study guide. The students will receive their scores. They have a chance to retake the quiz on Wednesday during lunch. This is on the students to improve their grade.
Thanks, Mr. Renaud
Sept 6-9
Good afternoon parents and guardians,
This Friday the students colonial brochure is due. Please ask them about the brochure to make sure it is ready to hand in. This has been a week project and will have a major effect on their grade and eligibility. We will be studying and taking a test over the colonies in this coming week.
Mr. Renaud
week of Aug 29 to Sept2
Hello to all,
This week the 8th grade worked on creating a brochure of a colony. This brochure was to try to get Europeans to come over to the colony for different reasons. We also connected immigration of today to what is like for the colonies. We will continue to work on the brochures. This will be homework for some as it is due on Friday.
Mr. Renaud
2nd week of school
Hello'
This week we continued with Latitude and Longitude. We also started studying different uses of many different maps.
Mr. Renaud
week 2 of the school year
Hello, This week the students only had my class for one day due to MAP tests. We are doing some research on the 13 colonies and emphasizing why they would risk their lives and leave their homes to come to the New World. We are comparing that to many of the immigrants today. We will eventually study why the colonists became upset with Britian and how that led to war.
Mr. Renaud
dear 8th grade parents
A huge hello to all of you,
This year I am very excited to welcome the 8th graders back after teaching them in 6th grade. Excitement fills the air on the first day of school. I am writing to you to tell you about our bell work. We will watch CNN Student News on the first working day of the week. I feel it is very important that the students are informed on events that are currently in the news around the globe. This is a 10 minute clip. The student will write (in complete sentences) about one subject covered on CNN Student News. This will lead to many discussions at times. This year I will be careful with my previewing to make sure there is no favoring one presidential candidate over another when talking about the election. If you feel un easy about your student watching CNN Student News I will gladly offer an alternative for your student.
